Auto-Immune diseases, arthritis, chronic aches and pains, thyroid dysfunction, eczema, psoriasis, delayed onset muscle soreness, delayed recovery from workouts, post surgery, heart disease, cancer, weak immune system…
What’s the common thread between all of these? Inflammation. Inflammation can be our best friend and worst enemy. It is our body’s defense system, our response to stress. Inflammation is critical to survival; we need it to heal and recover from injuries and illness. But our “friend” so often flips and becomes our enemy. When inflammation becomes our enemy, the shift is often slow like a drip. But, it can very quickly create debilitating pain and disease. Most of the time, medical professionals are just fighting the fire or chasing the symptom and not looking at the underlying reason the fire started to burn in the first place.
Chronic inflammation is like setting your body on fire from the inside. We often feel it as stiff, tight, achy and swollen joints but inflammation also presents as feeling bloated in our gut, constant unexplained fatigue and just general malaise. When inflammation becomes chronic and starts to build up because of a poor diet, lack of movement (or too much movement with athletes), not enough sleep, dehydration, over consumption of alcohol, work stress, home stress, environmental stress, just trying to keep it all together, the bucket you have to catch the constant drip eventually overflows and then it can become a problem.
“When your body’s systems experience a constant inflammatory response, you become more susceptible to aging and disease.”
Personally, I started to search for another option to deal with excessive inflammation. I’m nowhere near perfect with my health regimen, but I do think I’m doing most of the right things. About a year ago, I took a systemic inflammation test and my ratio was off the charts bad. How could I be focused on controlling inflammation—eating mostly the right things, taking supplements, exercising, managing stress, sleeping well—and still have an extraordinarily high level of chronic inflammation? This is why I began my search to see what else is out there to combat inflammation.
Fortunately, there are many natural options to stop the drip and get chronic inflammation under control—even when it is an auto-immune disease. Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC) triggers the body’s natural systemic responses to eliminate inflammation from the inside out. The great thing is that it can help to address inflammation in an 11 year old competitive swimmer, a high performing NBA athlete, a 47 year old woman suffering from Rheumatoid Arthritis, and an 80 year old woman battling chronic pain from arthritis in the exact same way. And, it only takes 3 minutes! What I love about WBC is that it is simply triggering the body’s natural systemic responses. It isn’t invasive.
In upcoming blog posts, we will dig deeper into how inflammation contributes to specific diseases but also just general dis-ease and dys-function, why pharmaceuticals might do more harm than good over the long term and many other topics related to your health. We will also discuss, in more detail, how Whole Body Cryotherapy can help us to get ahead and stay ahead of the constant drip of inflammation coming everywhere we turn. Questions?
